Simple Picture Prep - for eCommerce
This week I did my first GIMP tutorial. I left the microphone on my desk this, and since my computer’s hasn’t worked for months (thanks HP), this video is distractingly devoid of sound. I thought about audibling to something else, but I was worried that someone was really working hard at their GIMPing, and I didn’t want to let them down. So here it is. Enjoy.
Feel free to watch it several times. I would suggest trying to read the first time, and then just watching the mouse the second time. As a headsup, I am going to resize a product picture and put a different background on it, but this is intended to show how layers work in the GIMP and get you used to some of the other tools.

You really need the sound! You really did sum it up best with ‘distractingly devoid of sound’.
When I first got started using GIMP I think I cursed and swore at my computer the entire time.
Then I played with the picnik editor on my flickr account and was easy–then I cursed and swore at GIMP even though the program was closed!
I still use GIMP…I like curved arrows and the power of the program becomes more apparent the more I learn about it (but learning something new with the program is like pulling teeth).
Oh, other than the no sound the tutorial looks great.

Yeah, I’m really sorry about that. I was hoping that maybe people would just stumble into the wealth of other tutorials for GIMP on youtube. I will include audio with my future tutorials [fingers crossed].

I’m getting some comments from people who are already familiar with GIMP, and no one who doesn’t know it already.
Question: Should I do more advanced tutorials and skip the basics?

The real answer to that question deals with your goals.
Do you want traffic? Give people what they’re searching for.
Do you want to be a resource? Then don’t worry about the traffic and expound on the subjects you think need to be covered.
Your goals determine what you should do, and how you should go about doing them.
For instance, one of my goals is to build relevant traffic to my own website. Therefore I leave a worthwhile comment if I’m able to. I help build up other’s sites with the understanding that good is repaid in kind.
You got a comment because Mark started following me on Twitter and I wanted to see who he was.
But I digress…
oh, random thought, you might want to have to option available for readers to be notified of new comments once they’ve commented. And of course the option to unsubscribe from that notice.
Good luck, have a great day!
