Stretch and Grow
And
GROW
When we first introduced the J. D. Crowe designs, our sales staff discouraged you, our customers from purchasing them. I must say I did not agree with their reasoning. They felt the designs could only be applied successfully by experienced airbrush artists.
I ask you, how are you going to get better at anything if you don’t stretch and try something new? I invite you to step away from what is safe and enter into new territory.
Many of the J. D. Crowe designs are larger stencils and do require more time and yes, more practice. The upside is because they are larger, you can be more creative in applying the designs and that means you can also charge more for them. One customer who did purchase these designs reported his profits increased by 300% after adding the J. D. Crowe designs.
If you are the least bit apprehensive about entering this new territory, I suggest you start with a few designs and play around with them. Practice by spraying them on a sheet of paper. Then you can use your family and friends as guinea pigs.
It seems to me, the trend for permanent tattoos is larger designs, even full arm coverage. It’s a good idea to have some of these larger designs available for your customers who may want to experiment with this new trend.
Check out the J. D Crowe designs. Go to our home page and click on the “Stecils” link on the left, then click “Individual stencils”, next click on the down arrow next to “Narrow by category” and click on J.D. Crowe designs near the bottom of the list.
Here are a few J. D. Crowe stencil designs one of our employees did last summer.

I definitely support this concept. If you stay stuck in the old, you wont grow. I never bought into the JD Crowe because I do not do fairs and festivals where I charge for tattoos. so the idea of using these to generate more income doesn’t apply to me. Trying to incorporate these into my paid events would simply slow me down and that isn’t good. I think they are the coolest thing around.
If you think about it, you are probably already doing these types of colors and shading on the Ray Brandts. If you aren’t, you should be practicing so you can. If you can do ANY tattoo that looks half good, you can do JD Crowe.

Bonnie good blog. We started out with the expressions and Ray Brandts stencils and that was fine, but our customers wanted more detailed designs and I purchased two stencil sets from tatstore.com. One was the crosses which have proven very popular with our customers and the second was the butterflies stencil set. Which also is very popular with our lady customers who want more then just a tattoo. We offer them at fair and festivals but also offer them to our customers who hire us for private events and parties. The guest walk away with some of the nicest tattoos and we have been asked to attend other parties from the guest. These are easy enough for our 16 yr. old son to do and he is doing a fine job of them. While these designs do take a little more time, we have developed a way of producing them like the pictures and in a shorter time frame. I try an tell others to try them. I had a guest airbrush artist work with me this last week at a fair and I showed her how to do the crowe stencils, she couldn’t believe how easy they were with our direction. Now she is headed home to order some and start offering them to her customers.
Keep up the good blogs.
