Afterthoughts on getting the most out of your tats

Wouldn’t you know I thought of some more points to share about making tats last longer, after I posted my blog last week. Hmmmm! I wish I could remember to include all pertinent information in one blog. I guess my excuse is: I’m human and as we all know “To err is human.” That sounds like a pretty good excuse to me.

Here we go:

The following pertains to the Duratat ink. My tats seem to last a very long time, many tats will last even longer than two weeks. This is what works for me. I spray multiple coats of ink in extremely thin layers. I counted the layers one time and I sprayed seven layers of ink. When I am done spraying and before I remove the stencil, my tat looks completely dry. I must stress that the layers are extremely thin.

A couple of weeks ago we tested some white ink here at the shop. I overheard the crew in the back of the shop talking and remarking on how long that white ink lasted. Nate said his tat lasted forever. Yes, I know this was an exaggeration but tats usually don’t last very long on Nate. I sprayed the white tat on his forearm and he really needed to work to get it off. He had the tat for almost two weeks before he tried to get it off.

Another point I would like to add is for you to ask the customer how long they want the tat to last before you do the application. Some moms may not want the skeleton head with the spikes coming out of it, to last longer than a couple of days on their sons arm. If they only want it for a couple of days, then spray it on lightly.

I think it is so important to test your application techniques on family and friends. This will give you some very valuable feedback. Make sure your Guinea Pig knows and follows the care instructions for making their tats last longer. Keep a close eye on the tat and make notes so you will know what is working for you and what is not.
