YouTube Featureful Fabulous

The last two weeks Google has rolled out oodles of updates to many of it’s products even including one of its biggest products, YouTube.

The recent renovation, has definitely brought with it some serious functionality differences. As you can see, the look is slightly changed, although most of the design elements remained mostly recognizable. But the biggest obvious difference is the widescreen video support. As we go towards an all widescreen world, this seems an obvious step. Another big development, was a recently introduced partnership with Rumblefish which allows a video owner to actually replace the audio track with an actual, fully licensed song. These songs aren’t all your traditional royalty free sampling either, there are several big, big names in there. Google’s calling it Audio Swap, and you can read about it in the official YouTube Blog entry.

To demonstrate Audio Swap, I took the opportunity to try another YouTube feature that I’d never used before the “quick capture.” This feature integrates with your webcam and mic to “skip the middleman” and upload your direct captured videos right to youtube. Properly formatted and ready to go. Your free to check out my very pathetic attempt below. Obviously this isn’t for every application, but for some people doing some specific tasks, this will be perfect.
