Publish or Perish

If you’ve ever needed to publish a large amount of material, such as books, magazines, calendars, or photos, there may be a better way than standing in line for unhelpful service at Kinkos (I’ve had some bad experiences). Lulu is an online tool for self publishers that helps you design, print, and even sell your [...]

Standards: Performance, Ethics, and Morals

I have one more point I would like to make with regard to hiring helpers to work at the mall or any other location for that matter. You are responsible for your employees’ performance. You need to set the standards for responsible work ethics, dress code and acceptable behavior. You can try to train employees [...]

Content is still king – and good friend for local search

Every time you comment on a forum, create a blog, add a new web page, or list your local business in a directory, you are creating content that is then crawled by the search engines and used to create results page. When a searcher types in a word or phrase into a search engine, they [...]

Yet Another Unsolicited Endorsement

In my google reader assisted web roaming, I stumbled across a wonderful web suite of products under the umbrella Aviary. You can visit them at Aviary.com – I would strongly suggest doing so. Their offering includes four very trendy (yes, beta) programs called Peacock, Phoenix, Raven, and Toucan. In reverse order a swatch processor, a [...]

Branding Is Not A Dirty Word!

Branding has often been associated with ridiculous attempts by companies like Coke to make you think about their product constantly. Coke is known to have actually paid shows like American Idol to incorporate “Coke red” into their set and attempt to use subliminal advertising in the hopes these over-the-top schemes will make you go out and buy Coke right this instant. The truth is none of these schemes has accomplished anything except making normal people laugh. However, branding is not all a silly waste of money, almost everything you buy has branding associated with it that convinced you it was the better product for you. Maybe you bought a double cheeseburger from McDonalds because you’re broke, hungry and have that “dollar-menu-aires” song stuck in head that reminded you that McDonalds is the place people like you buy their fast food. Or, maybe you got your heating and cooling fixed by the local repair man with that catchy tag line. My point is, everyone should utilize branding in their business, and since I like you guys I’m going to share some free ways to help you do that on the web today.

FreeConferencing.com Beta

You know it’s gotta be good because they call it Beta [*wink GMail beta]. But really, I jabbed it’s use of a very trendy naming convention because that is literally the only bad thing I have to say about this service. FreeConferencing.com is a sister service of FreeConferenceCall.com which is in itself a wonderful product. [...]

Wrapping Up Malls

I think we can wrap up our series on malls today. I can almost hear all the groans of disappointment. Yes, I love the mall too. One aspect of operating a tat business in a mall as opposed to doing fairs and festivals is that you have the mall to answer to. If your kiosk [...]
